Your Top 10 DLSU Graduating Checklist

written by Maurisha Sales & Abigail Vy #DigitalwithLynOla

There are just so many things to do with so little time in our stay at DLSU. There are well known food stalls to try, as well as, activities and events to experience. That is why we make the most of our 3 years in DLSU. Here are our top 10 things you should try before graduating!

1. GOOD MUNCH FOR LUNCH

Good Munch in Agno is usually always packed with hungry DLSU students during lunch breaks. You can’t go wrong with any of their dishes, ‘Beef Salpicao’, ‘Dirty Porkchop’, ‘Rosemary Chicken’, ‘Bacon and Eggs’, and ‘Honey Garlic Fish’. Although, my personal favorite is the ‘Beef Salpicao’. The beef has a hint of sweetness but it doesn’t clash with the savory flavors and the combination goes extremely well with the steamy white rice. I also love how they add a generous amount of marble potatoes and scrambled eggs to it. The dishes are always cooked and fried in the hot, sizzling pan right before serving it to students. A perfect lunch to fill your stomach before or after classes.

2. POTPOTS AS A SNACK

Potato Giant’s french fries are a must try! There are two stalls available for DLSU students; one located in Pericos and the other in Agno. They’re famous for their circular shaped fries… soft on the inside, and extremely crispy on the outside! They’re similar to Potato Corner in a way wherein they also have the well known powdered flavors such as Barbeque, Sour Cream, and Cheese. They also offer different kinds of treats such as curly fries, hash browns, and chicken nuggets. It’s affordable and a great on-the-go snack when you’re rushing to class or when you don’t want to eat anything too heavy.

3. CHRISTMAS SEASON

Christmas season in DLSU is one of the most exciting times of the year! Christmas lights, parols, and decors can be found all over campus. The best part is when they light up the Christmas tree in December! The immense joy and excitement you feel once you see them putting it up throughout the month of November is truly a wonderful feeling. Plus, it’s another sign that the term is ending and that the new year is about to come!

4. PET A CAT

DLSU is known for their adorable, chubby cats that roam around campus. Cat lovers usually pet and play with them for a while in the middle of hallways, pathways, and on benches. Sometimes, the students feed them with some snacks as well. The most well known cat is ‘Archer’. Mostly everyone can differentiate him from the rest for his orange and white fur and round physical appearance. If you’re not a cat lover, then you better watch out! There are just too many cats in DLSU!

5. VISIT THE HENRY SY LIBRARY

Either you love reading books or not, you can’t ignore the fact that the DLSU Henry Sy Library is magnificent. There are a total of 15 floors and 6 out of those 15 floors are filled with all the books, readings, and research you could possibly need for your classes and thesis. Not to mention, there’s even a Coffee Bean inside the building on the 6th floor for students to eat and enjoy their cup of coffee. Conference rooms are available to students throughout the day if ever they need privacy while discussing with their friends about a certain topic in class. Even a mini museum can be found inside on the 13th floor, filled with Filipino historical and classic items. If you don’t feel like reading, there are couches available for you and your friends to simply chill or take a nap. The entire building has air conditioners all around, keeping it cool and fresh when you visit.

6. GET SPOOKED

The University has been established since 1911, making it over a hundred years old today. With that, there’s bound to be a few fellow spooky spirits still around the campus. Most of the stories from both students and faculty talk about things they’ve seen in St. La Salle Hall and Mutien Hall considering they’re one of the oldest buildings the school has along with St. Joseph Hall. If you’ve had even just one term with night classes in one of these buildings, you’ve probably had your fair share of spine tingling feelings when walking these halls.

7. CLIMB THE ANDREW STAIRCASE IN HASTE

Remember in Frosh year when you had a class in the Andrew Building? And the line of the elevators were so long you thought “hey, might as well take the stairs” but end up out of breath on the 7th floor? Yup. As little young Frosh we thought these lines would take forever considering how long they were. But in the end we find out it’s better to wait in line and be a few minutes late than taking the staircase and end up sweating in class as if you just came from a jogging session in Razon.

8. SHOPPING SPREE AT THE BAZAAR

Okay okay, maybe not a literal shopping spree. But with all the booths stuffed with clothes, knick knacks, and good food, you probably had an impulse buy more than once. These stalls come to school about twice an academic year, University Week and the Christmas Bazaar. All these stalls are a mix of Instagram stores and businesses that the students themselves put up, they take up all the possible bench space that the school has leaving the students to stand around and walk through the campus for a place to sit. It may be a bit of a hassle but these bazaar’s always manage to give students a run for their money.

9. ATTEND A UAAP GAME

Although the University Athletic Association of The Philippines (UAAP) involves 8 universities and 15 sports, DLSU’s crown jewel sports team is the Green Archers. You certainly can’t leave your university without the experience of cheering with pride for your school, most especially when they’re up against flying birds in the sky.

10. PHOTOSHOOT IN FRONT OF ST. LA SALLE HALL

Images from Facebook

Last but not the least, the epic and renowned act of being an official graduate of De La Salle University Manila, a photoshoot in front of St. La Salle Hall! For as long as we could remember this has been somewhat a tradition among the students who have either finished their defense with their approved thesis at hand or jumping for joy in their togas. Well why wouldn’t they? Aside from the Henry Sy library, the front facade of this building remains as the university’s iconic landmark.
